"Teacher Training Quality Inclusion Program ( TTQIEP), Solukhubu"

"The educational endeavor taking place in the Solukhumbu District of Nepal, generously supported by the Australian Himalayan Foundation (AHF) and DFAT, Australia, resonates profoundly with the strategic framework outlined in Nepal's 10 years’ School Education Sector Plan (SESP:2022-2032). Spanning from 2021 to 2026 and taking the accreditation from Nepal Government for its capacity strengthening initiatives, this project demonstrates a meticulous alignment with the SESP plan's core tenets, centered around child safeguarding, robust community engagement, and the enhancement of teacher capacities based on a national curriculum framework.

In a remarkable fusion of global aspirations, national priorities, and local contextual awareness, this initiative mirrors the essence of SESP's objectives, REED Nepal’s strategic priorities, AHF’s priorities, and SDG targets. With a dedicated focus on ensuring equitable and quality education for every child, this project seamlessly integrates with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), echoing SESP's commitment to uplift educational standards while cultivating lifelong learning opportunities for all.

PROGRAMME: TEACHER TRAINING QUALITY EDUCATION  PROGRAMME

LOCATION: SHREE JIVAN JYOTI HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL,

KANGEL, SOLUKHUMBU

"I am a person having a very loud voice used to enter the class only with chalk and duster in my hand", confessed Mr Rai who has been teaching the children for two decades. The students in the class were scared of him as he used to threaten them. His teaching technique was just talk and chalk. Mr. Rai said, "My teaching was like a religious preaching where the children used to listen silently". Teacher did not care about preparing and using teaching learning materials and participation of students because they were not much aware about it. "We did not know about the child friendly teaching and the knowledge and skills of preparing and using teaching learning materials that makes learning fun", spoke Mr. Rai truly.

Teaching profession is to enhance the knowledge and skills of children and to make them a creative manpower of a country. The children cannot be creative with the rote learning, punishment that we used to do in the previous time. After the teacher training programme teaching learning strategies are totally changed. Mr. Rai expressed, "These days I teach the students analyzing their needs, interest, age and level with the help teachers' guide, curriculum and a lot of teaching learning materials".

He including his friends are thankful to the Australian Himalayan Foundation and REED-Nepal. The programme has bright many positive changes in the schools and community. "The programme has not only improved my teaching skills but also has brought improvements in teaching learning achievements of students", said Mr. Rai.

Finally Mr. Rai requested, "Please start lower secondary and secondary training so that the result of secondary level and SLC can be improved soon".

Purnima Shrestha , a sub-overseer , is volunteering AHF’s build back better project in Solukhumbu from June 2017. AHF provided her with 18 months scholarship for studying in a technical institute. She is keen to be involved in ASER construction project in her own district.

She has four elder brothers and two elder sisters. Her parents are involved in farming. Her plans for future is to graduate in civil engineering and help the community in the development of the physical infrastructures.
